Health & Activity for Life

This comprehensive Health and Physical Education class is designed to introduce students to the knowledge and skills that are necessary to live physically active and healthy lives. The goal of this class is to create a foundation of health and physical education concepts and principles that students can use and grow with for a lifetime of healthy living.

Lifetime Sports

This class will introduce students to activities that can be engaged in from adolescence to adulthood. All activities will be dual or individual activities that require participants to maintain a high level of fitness in order to participate successfully. The goal of this class is to give students the knowledge and skills that are necessary to fully participate in activities that provide social interaction and enjoyment, as well as the health benefits of staying physically active.

X- Fitness

Hinkley's most challenging Physical Education course will provide opportunities for students to progress and master skills in the health and skill related components of physical fitness. A wide variety of fitness activities will be taught including crossfit, tabata, weight training, P90x, P90x2, and circuit training. An emphasis will be placed on goal setting and personal improvement, rather than on competition with others. The ultimate goal of this course is to provide students with tools they can use to take their aerobic and anaerobic conditioning as well as nutrition.





Swimming
This class will introduce students to water safety and activity while in a pool environment. The goal of this class is to help students develop the skills and confidence necessary to enjoy the water safely. An ongoing focus of this class will be acquisition and improvement of skills related to aquatic activities; including buoyancy, breathing technique, strokes, survival skills, diving, canoeing and snorkeling. Students will engage in activities that provide social interaction and enjoyment, as well as the health benefits of staying physically active.




Swimming will be assessed using the Hinkley PE Rubric, Hinkley PE Fitness Rubric and several rubrics designed to evaluate specific strokes and water skills. In addition, students will be videotaped by the instructor only to help refine technique, encourage self-evaluation of learned skills, track progress and encourage improvement.
